DETAILS

This course is designed for people working with children with special needs, either in a paid or voluntary capacity, in an educational setting.  Students must be within a school setting on a regular basis throughout the duration of the course.

Students will develop knowledge and understanding of the range of children's disabilities and special educational needs, the current legislation and service provision, and the education system in general. The course is very practically based and is equivalent to an NVQ level 3 standard of competence.

 

ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed on a completed portfolio, including evidence of their knowledge and understanding of their experiences on the course, and their direct practice within the school.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Ability to write up notes.

Approximately 2 hours per week home study will be required.

 

COURSE MATERIALS

Ring Binder and File Paper.

DURATION

60 hours.

Plus 150 hrs work (Paid or voluntary) as a Support Assistant.

 

PROGRESSION

NVQ Early Years Care and Education.

GCSE. Child Development.

 

SUGGESTED COMPLEMENTARY STUDIES

NCFE Certificate in Basic Counselling Skills (3702)

Basic First Aid.

Basic Food Hygiene.

Introduction to Computers.

 

QUALIFICATION GAINED

NCFE SPECIAL NEEDS ASSISTANT CERTIFICATE. (DfEE Approved)
