Welcome to this year’s first edition of Student News

We’d like to welcome students old and new to the college.  Our staff are here to help so if you have any queries or questions you can either ask your tutor or ask at reception.  There is also lots of useful information in the Student Handbook so if you don’t have a copy ask at reception.

Website

The College now has its own website.  You can check it out at:

www.bowlingcommunitycollege.50megs.com It is in its infancy at the moment so if you visit the site and notice any problems please let us know.  There are lots of links to other useful sites for almost every subject.  We hope that the site will be a useful resource for students so if you have any ideas of things we might include we welcome suggestions.

Essential Skills; Maths and English

If you want to improve your English and Maths you can sign up for our Essential Skills classes.  The sessions are on Tuesday and Thursday 1.00 – 3.00.  The classes are very relaxed and informal and you are able to work at your own pace.  Please ask at reception for details.

Learning Agreements and Financial Assistance

During the next few weeks, a member of the College team will be coming into your classes to help you fill in your student learning agreement.  This is just a short form that asks some simple questions about the course you have chosen and your reasons for returning to study.  You will also be given information about financial assistance that may be available to you to pay for exam fees, books etc.

Student Forum

The first student forum will take place on Thursday 8th November at 6.30pm.  We hope as many students as possible will attend this meeting to help us find out what you want from the college.

This is a chance to help us to improve our service to you.  We want to know what you think of the College.  What courses would you like us to offer next year?  How can we improve our facilities?  What do you need in order to succeed at your studies?  This meeting will be an opportunity for us to meet and discuss what we are doing and how we can do it better.  Please give an hour of your time to help us develop the College.
