A must for those interested in people and society who have a commitment to gaining a useful qualification.

 

Topics covered will begin with a discussion on ‘What is Sociology’, moving onto central themes concerned with family life, deviance, power and control, class and social stratification, gender, race and cultural inequalities etc.

 

Discussion and the sharing of relevant experiences will be encouraged.

 

ASSESSMENT

One 2 ½ hour written exam. (80%)

One piece of coursework (20%)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A good level of literacy.

 

COURSE MATERIALS

Writing materials. Text book as advised by tutor.

 

DURATION

32 weeks at 2 1/2 hours class time, PLUS 1 hour coursework session.  Students should also undertake a minimum of 2 hours individual study.
