Early Years Education, Childcare and Playwork Training

For many years organisations supporting nurseries, playgroups, playschemes, childminders and other childcare providers have developed their own training and qualification standards.

In order to bring all the available training together a National Framework of accredited qualifications for the early years, childcare and playwork sectors is being developed.

The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and the Early Years National Training Organisation (Early Years NTO) are developing a framework of training and qualifications for different occupations involved with children and young people. This will mean employers will be more aware of what each qualification means and make it easier for workers to move from one job to another.

As the demand for high quality childcare and education increases the need for appropriately trained people to work in childcare and education is growing. The National Childcare Strategy aims to

increase the percentage of the workforce who have

relevant qualifications to work in childcare

enhance career progression within and between sectors
